Bugs and Biodiversity

The kids were a little confused when I brought a bunch of spatulas out to the farm. You see, what you call spatulas for your cooking, we call bug catchers on the farm. This week, our farm came alive with our garden workers. We found all 4 stages of ladybugs, caterpillars chomping on leaves, worms, beetles, grubs and chameleons. Our students were able to connect their classroom learning to all the magic that is happening on the farm right now.

Intermediate kids were introduced to farming concepts that can have an impact on our food supply. They discovered that Biodiversity is much better than Monoculture. Ask them what happened when they all became corn. Yikes!

Then a fews friends got to harvest some of their crops. We love harvest time!
