What the World Eats & What We Are Eating at Moss Haven Farm

We extended our Multicultural Week Lessons to take a look at what other people eat around the world. Using the book, What the World Eats by Peter Menzel and Faith D'Aluision, the kids made comparisons to how and what others families from around the globe eat in one week. They discovered that England, Australia and Canada had very similar eating habits as we do in the United States, but found many differences in families in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

When farming and growing food, the crops need to be checked on a regular basis for signs of problems and this week, Ms. Jaber's 1st grade friends found spots on their potato leaves. A quick search led us to discover that our potatoes most likely had a fungus and we needed to dig up their whole bed so that the disease wouldn't travel to the others on the farm. The good news is that everybody got to take home a bag of farm fresh, bright red potatoes. #Yum! Radishes, lettuce and strawberries were nibbled on this week too.
