Edible Education

Farming is fun, but eating and tasting are big hits with the kids! Food connects us, levels playing fields and opens up conversation about memories, families and cultural diversity. This week, our PTA Multicultural Team did an amazing job of planning 3 tasty treats for the kids. Kinder and Primary made hand made tortillas, Intermediate made a pita dip from India and Upper cooked a most delicious dish from Ethiopia.
In addition to edible education on the farm, 5th grade students got to go on a field trip to the Dallas Farmers Market. They learned about the history and mission of the market, went on a scavenger hunt and then got to buy produce and products that were grown locally. Whole Foods has sponsored curriculum for our 5th graders this year and the kids have learned a lot about locally sourced healthier food options. Talk to them about what they have been doing. They will be happy to share.
