Pumpkins, Leaves And A Great Big Freeze

When it is 80 degrees in December, you can work up a sweat on the farm. That's what our farmers did this week. We collected leaves and worked on smashing our pumpkins for our compost. We also added  compost in our beds to help protect our Winter crops for an upcoming deep freeze. 

There is a saying in Texas, "If you don't like the weather, just wait a minute and it will change." This time change came in the form of an ice storm. 

Our farmers took a break from farm work to get out and enjoy some frosty fun!

                                     

Who knows what will come with the weather next week? In any event, we will take time to enjoy the farm one way or another.

Our Librarian is a forward thinking lady. For as long as I can remember, our school has had a Storybook Pumpkin Competition. Who would have thought that one day we would be growing our own on our farm? Although none of these pumpkins actually were grown on our farm, they support our veggie loving climate around here. Enjoy your Halloween festivities and our fun Storybook Pumpkins!
