The Chickens Are Coming!

We had an informational "Coop Night" at our school this week. The purpose of the event, was to answer any questions or concerns that the community may have. We had a panel of chicken experts on hand to field those questions or concerns. The kids are so egg-cited!
Farmer Dan is a farmer who also raises and sells chickens. His farm is Polish Farms and is located in Poetry, Texas. He offers workshops and sells his chickens at North Haven Gardens in Dallas.

Leslie Halleck owns a business called Halleck Horticultural. She is an urban farmer and raises chickens of her own. She has worked with many communities in developing chicken plans.

The chickens stole the show! We can hardly wait until ours get here!

Moss Haven Farm Friends Keep Giving Back

I am constantly amazed by the giving spirit that grows in our kids' hearts and minds! I am also encouraged that these kids are our future and I know that in our community, great things will come our way. This group of girls raised money to give back to the American Heart Association who have shared the gift of our Teaching Garden. They felt that this would be a great way to thank this amazing organization who do so much for so many. So, they made a trip to the National Headquarters to present their gift.

They were welcomed and thanked by Vice President, Laura Sol.

What a great gift girls! Keep up the excellent work and continue to give back to your community! Kids like you make a difference! Thanks girls!

The Brain Cafe

Our wonderful 5th grade girl scout group took our drab out of date science lab and turned it into the Brain Cafe.
One of our generous families and a parent who is a chef, donated some funding and time to buy new cooking supplies for our school.

The scouts organized our supplies so that they would be easy to access for cooking lessons. Then they came up with some cool displays to jazz things up.

They shared their updates with the staff at an early morning meeting.

Kids are amazing! They had great ideas and we turned them loose. Thank you so much girls for making our school and community a better place. Keep up the good work!

Spring Spruce Up On The Farm

We had a big long list of chores for our farm work day.

We placed straw between the beds in the big farm field on the playground.

There was a lot of big worm love. Worms = Magic in the garden.

This farm friend found the biggest worm on record.

The kids worked hard filling in the walkways of the farm field with fresh cut straw.

Lots of families came out together to roll up their sleeves and dig in.

We moved miles of soil this weekend.

Some signage was added to the farm.

Even Pip, a family dog, joined in our efforts.

Grubs kept the kids entertained on the farm.

This family enjoyed the nice weather and worked hard to help us get the job done.

Kids worked together to mark out the rows and walkways of our farm field.

These girls staked the opposite side of the field.

Straw is fun. It seemed like a real farm.

Straw snow was great to play in!

Kids of all ages dug in during the Spring Spruce Up.

Straw was fun to work with.

This was the youngest farmer to participate. We love two year olds!

Brothers hard at work with the mulch mound.

Straw is awesome!

Our big farm field is ready to be planted.

This family came out in full force.

A father - daughter team came out to build a new compost system.

Working on the farm is hard work, but so rewarding! We had a great turnout and everybody who came out to lend a hand did a great job. When I sat back and looked at all that was accomplished this weekend, I was so thankful of our wonderfully supportive community. They are truly amazing and the farm keeps digging our community roots in deeper and stronger. Thanks for all who helped. We really couldn't do it without your never ending support!
