Some Scenes From Earth Week 2016

At Moss Haven Farm, we think about the Earth every day, so Earth Week was another great opportunity to get outside and connect our farm with curriculum. We integrate our lessons on the farm by combining STEAM curriculum (Science-Technology-Engineering-Art-Math). When lessons relate to many different methodologies, it connects and cements the learning. We made recycled newspaper butterflies, found caterpillars and studied the plants that they eat. Some kids harvested onions from our Giving Garden that were delivered to the Network Ministries food bank this week. Our 6th grade students are researching the different varieties of herbs that are growing and being sold at the Dallas Farmers Market so that they can create QR codes to educate customers about uses for our herbs. Some of our student farmers represented Moss Haven Farm at Earth Day Texas. They shared all the amazing learning and programming that we have on our school farm. We respect the Earth and learn from it everyday on the farm and it makes our students and community all the better for it!
