We loved our 5th grade field trip to the Dallas Farmers Market! Our school was invited for the third year to participate in the Days Of Taste. This program was developed by Robert Mondavi and Julia Childs to introduce kids to the art of food appreciation. We began our day learning about our taste buds.
The students listened and learned from a local chef and a bread maker about their craft and career path. Then they were given the task of creating 2 different salads. They were given a dollar each and broke up into small groups with volunteers from the American International Wine and Food Organization. The kids were taken to the market to shop and then on to the cutting boards.
After a lot of slicing and dicing, the kids shared their salads and were treated to cupcakes from La Duni Restaurant. We enjoyed our trip and I am certain that more than one student is dreaming of becoming a chef tonight. Thank you to AIWF for inviting us to participate! We loved it!
