Making Plans To Plant Again

This week our students were able to get some work done on the farm with our Master Gardener friends, Farm Parents and Teachers.

We decided that the Square Foot planting system would be good to try in the raised beds this year.
Our beds were measured off and strings were put in place to give thirty-two 12 inch squares per bed.

Students were paired with a partner, so that they could share a square and learn what they could plant in their plot for maximum growing space.

The kids also reviewed the important needs of plants and learned about the theory of square foot gardening and why it is a great method for small spots.

We will meet back in 3 weeks to actually plant the squares and with nurturing, water and luck, we will have a plentiful harvest. Our gardening knowledge keeps growing and blossoming out on the Farm. We also have a lot of fun! We can't wait to plant!
